About the Authors
 

Angela Sembera Hovis has over 25 years experience teaching and tutoring math at the University and High School level. An expert in the psychological and social aspects of mathematics education, Ms. Hovis specializes in working with students who hate, fear, and avoid math. She has coordinated college tutorial programs, designed math anxiety curricula for high schools and colleges, and is a frequent lecturer to educators, students, and parents on the subject of math avoidance.

Ms. Hovis graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and earned a Master of Arts degree in Sociology from Cornell University.

Michael Hovis is an award winning writer and filmmaker whose work is presently used by schools and colleges throughout the U.S. and Canada. This work has addressed a wide variety of social and educational issues such as teenage pregnancy, drug abuse, AIDS, art, cancer prevention, mental health, and the psychological aspects of education.

Mr. Hovis earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from The University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas.
